Has anyone here ever replaced an HPLIM door operator with a different brand? How did the swap go? And which operator brand do you recommend for upgrades?

Yeah, I swapped out an old HPLIM with a Nabco unit, the install was smooth with minor tweaks, I hiighly recommend NABCO or Besam for reliable performance and easy integration

Absolutely, I've swapped out an HPLIM for a GAL operator in the past. It ended up working pretty well, but it did require a custom bracket and some adjustments to the load sensors. It took longer than I anticipated, but it ended up being much smoother afterward.

I'd definitely recommend GAL for its reliability and good parts support. Wittur's a solid choice too, if you can find it.

What kind of doors and controller are you dealing with?

Did you run into any issues aligning the GAL operator with the existing clutch or door linkage? And what kind of load sensor tweaks did you end up making?

If you're upgrading, GAL or Motion Control still seem like solid choices, just make sure you've got the right header space and door track compatibility first.
