When do you make sure to wear your masks?

Just wanted to share something from last week. I was working on a controller box in an old freight elevator that hadn't been opened in a long time. And you know it, it was full of dust and dirt, and I got a sore throat for two days after. I usually wear a mask when changing brakes, but now I think it's smart to use one anytime I'm dealing with old wires, insulation, or small spaces. Any similar experiences?

I keep an N95 in my kit, and a box in my truck. I'm actually getting used to wearing one all the time, but my rule of thumb is to always put one on any time I'm dealing with debris that's been sitting in the hoist way or pit for a while, especially in older buildings. That's not just dust. It can be fiberglass, asbestos, lead, and all sorts of other nasty things! You just never know what you're getting into, so it's always better to be safe than sorry!
